[FIXED] Download Installation Problems

Post by Abjab »

I had a heck of a time downloading the installer; I run PC in Vista, Explorer 7 and latest Norton Internet Security. It refused to accept the Installer. What I got was:-

1) "TOC-Moul.exe Publisher could not be verified": (file was then quaranteed). This was because there was no website source or file certificates

2) "toc-moul.exe (WS.Reputation.1) detected by Download Insight": (I had already turned OFF the Norton "Insight Protection" under Norton "Computer Settings")(file was then seperately quaranteened). This was because only 5 other users had reported using this file in "The cloud" so Norton considered it "Dangerous" under my "Medium" Security settings.

I failed to find any means to over-ride these circumstances with admin rights, until I crawled through the Norton protocols and also disabled Norton "Download Insight Notifications" under their "Web settings"

The problem with these circumstances is that I would have had the same result if the file had really been hacked/infected, which would also have disabled its certification. In this event I was able to use admin rights and start the download and instal :) However TOC-Moula launcher and urulive.exe failed to open because "MSVCP100.dll was missing". Since msvcp71.dll was common to all copies I assumed that perhaps it wasn't overwritten correctly, when it should have been. Vista advised me to try the install again...which I will try next;

The purpose of this post is to help anyone else who experiences these same circumstances, and perhaps solicit a better solution, or encourage certificates perhaps...

And Thank You Mystler !

Well, the first issue looks like a problem with you Antivirus software.

The DLL problem can be solved by installing the C++ 2010 Runtime as i described in this thread.

Many Thank Mystler ! two comments, if I may:
Well, the first issue looks like a problem with your Antivirus software.
Umm, well, Yes and no, it might help to advertize that the downloader file is not certificated, and not otherwise infected; (the website status is self advising). Disabling or over-riding Antivirus software must be a necessary option, consequently.
The DLL problem can be solved by installing the C++ 2010 Runtime as i described in this thread. http://the-open-cave.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=21&t=11
I missed that note, (my apologies !) Thank You :) Some Avies appear to have managed to log on merely by manually loading MSVCP100.dll and MSVCR100.dll into Systems32 folder, which was what I was doing too...and concluded I probably needed the whole thing (C++ 2010 Runtime). In my case I was working from a preinstalled working MOUL (Step3): The Requirements for a working MOUL are listed here http://mystonline.com/en/play/. It might help to note that the Requirements for a working TOC-MOULa should include the C++ 2010 Runtime software...If that is always the case. My instinct is that this might help to limit the span of possible bugs, perhaps. Unless advised otherwise I assume that no other software is required.

The point here is to suggest that a "Requirements" section could be helpful up front, and might help provide you with better control of Bugs in the long run...just a thought....

THank You for all your efforts, and your kind consideration :)

I already talked to Opa who was creating the installer. It has been updated now and should check whether the runtime is installed or not. It's the same with DirectX. ;)

EDIT: Okay, Opa corrected me. It is NOT updated yet. He is still working on that issue.

Well I followed your good directions Mystler and chose to update DirectX, nvidia PhysX, and load Microsoft C++ 2010 Runtime (in that order) on top of my install, as necessary Requirements for TOC-MOUL, and it worked :D Yayyy !! Note: MOUL is installed under Admin Programs, TOC-MOUL is installed in My Docs.

Then I lost Both MOUL and TOC-MOUL access simultaneously (updaters hung), until I remembered to look for a left over extra explorer.exe/launcher.exe running in Task Manager (One event due to Net6 from staying online afk too long; same with chatlog running ; and one event caused by independant loss of DSL server due to local road work). Fixed that, and everything (both MOULs) worked and appeared to be most stable. Spent a long time playing, doing simple things and took One KI Pic as an experiment...because I was scared that TOC-MOUL might over-write the MOUL UruLive KI folder files found in My Documents for OOC use. It didnt; so I took some more. However, I still don't know where those KI Pic images are located from a TOC-Moul KI Pic.......I presumed there must be a new file name for them which I havn't found yet . Later, I ran a Chatlog, which I also can't find OOC. Oh ! and somehow the Game Login Desktop shortcut lost its thumbnail TOC image.

There was a Microsoft Security Update to .dll's (KB2467173) in the mix too; I nearly rolled it back at one point but it appears to be benign.

Right now though, TOC-MOUL Logon Updater is hanging for me. I can see other avies are logged on from Forum information, but the server doesnt seem to want to update me. (Banned ? :? )

The point here is that when I was logged on, the TOC-MOUL server appeared to be more responsive and stable for me than the basic MOUL server, I thought ; Nice Work !! I hoped that some of this might help identify any issues you may be fighting; and I'm still looking for the KI and Chat log folders; and I'll wait for things to settle before trying to login, unless you can advise otherwise.

Thank You !!

(Edit) Is it possible that TOC-MOUL thinks I'm online when I'm not ? And I assume that the little green "Online" text by my name above means Forum, not Game.

Same here, can't log in at the moment. I think the two lucky ones that have online status aren't that lucky anyway. I've seen my name on that list even hours after I left the cavern.

My name is still listed, although I left the cave around 9:00 this morning! I've been trying since around 3:00 to get back in and can't get past 'checking for patcher update' .

I just downloaded TOC and it wont recognize my user name and password. It always says "account not found" and I was wondering if anyone else has had this problem and is there anything I can do to fix it?
