Don't laugh. I naturally assumed that any computer that runs MOULa would run TOC. HA HA HA.
For some absurd reason your launcher will not run on Windows XP pro, while the Cyan launcher will. Why?
I would think reducing your player base is counter-productive. There are people that can't afford what MS extorts for an upgrade!
This OS requirement (and any other surprises) should have been pointed out before I downloaded your installer, perhaps on the How to Play page.
Disappointed,

Re: System Requirements???
Hey Tony,
I have TOC on my old, old, Windows XP. It works perfect.
I do know you have to do what the instructions says exactly.
It isn't very hard at all. I am not very computer literate so,
if this old lady can do it, I am sure you can, also.

Re: System Requirements???
Windows XP is no longer updated by Microsoft. Therefore, there are many security holes if you continue to use XP.
As far as I know the current TOC Installer even supports no more XP.
Older versions of TOC can certainly be operated with Win XP.
Please correct me someone if I'm wrong.

Re: System Requirements???
You are correct about the updates from Microsoft Vaughn.
I only use my old Win XP only for playing a few games.
I played on mine this past weekend and it still worked.
But, I do agree, that it is time for upgrading from Win XP.

Re: System Requirements???
Windows XP is not supported anymore and the installer should also notify you about that.
EDIT: Regarding your disappointment. I don't believe that it is still necessary to justify dropping XP support almost a year after Microsoft dropped it. XP is a feast for malware now that it does not receive any security updates. I can live with being "counter-productive" by requiring people to use an OS that makes their everyday life safe again.
If the cost is what keeps you from getting a newer Microsoft OS then I recommend that you try a popular Linux distribution like Ubuntu. Using wine, you should be able to play TOC on Linux too.

Re: System Requirements???
ok. Some people are not going to stop using XP, like it or not. Live with it, don't make it harder for no good reason.
Where can I get a copy of an older TOC installer that will work on XP? Thank you.

Re: System Requirements???
Will somebody please answer the questions in the op? Bashing obsolete software is off topic.

Some developers stop supporting outdated stuff in order to move on, like it or not. Live with it, don't complain for no good reason.Tony88 wrote:ok. Some people are not going to stop using XP, like it or not. Live with it, don't make it harder for no good reason.
This is not "bashing obsolete software", neither is it off topic because you *asked* about it. We announced it a long time ago here and Gehn Shard has done the same. Look at your calendar in your taskbar. For me it says that we have the year 2015. XP was released in August 2001. You cannot expect any developer to discard modern technologies in order to support something that is over a decade old and no longer supported itself, just like you cannot expect modern musicians to release their album on tape when we have CDs and digital downloads. Times change, I'm so sorry, but they really do.
I even tried to help you by suggesting a free and modern OS that is a good replacement for XP. But obviously you ignored that too. I suppose I cannot cure Neophobia...
There is no working XP client.Tony88 wrote:Where can I get a copy of an older TOC installer that will work on XP? Thank you.

Re: System Requirements???
Very good answer Mystler.
I had not played TOC on my old Win XP for quite some timeI
So, I tried, and Mystler was quite right. It does not work. My error
in thinking it was working.
If your older computer needs an upgrade, you can pay for the Windows 7,
buy a new computer, or use a Ubuntu, which I have not tried. Never done Ubuntu before.
Please listen to Mystler. He is very knowledgeable about TOC and he knows what he is doing.
Again, it is time to say goodbye to XP and move on.

Re: System Requirements???
I completely agree. Technology moves forward, so why should we linger on old systems forever, specially if they become dangerous? I do understand Tony's disliking Microsoft, but as Myslter said, there are other alternatives. What I do not understand however is the agressivity in Tony's messages.
The OC and the Gehn Shards are programmed and run generously by teams of Uru fans and enthousiasts, and developed and maintained in their free time. It is not a public service we pay for with our taxes to have the right to be that insolent and demanding.
The shards have their technical criteria and if we want to play here we know what requirements our systems must meet. If they do not, we shoudn't attack the authors, just as we wouldn't attack a singer for not having their music on old vinile disks. Just move on Tony, find a game that your old computor can play (Tetris is fun, for instance
), and be happy. The player base will be reduced by one probably, but will be increased by many more.
