Drizzle31 and Java 8

Post by Hefred »

I lost my Tpots installation on a Windows 7 system. I can download and install Tpots and Drizzle31. Tpots installs fine and works but is missing the fan ages. However, I can't seem to get Drizzle to start. Windows keeps coming up with a window asking what program do I want to use to open the Drizzle file. Before I go insane, can someone take me by the hand and tell me what I have to do to get Drizzle to run on Windows 7?

I would greatly appreciate it,

Sorry, put in wrong forum. Please move it to the proper location

I sure did, When I click on the Drizzle JAR file Windows7 asks what program I want to open Drizzle with. Some place I read that I need to use Java6.

I tried right clicking on the Drizzle file and using the "change" function under Drizzle Properties. That at least got Java to attempt opening the JAR file. It came up with the following error message: "C:\user\DELL\Desktop\Drizzle31.jar is not a valid WIN32 application"

Hmm... Drizzle should work fine with Java 8. Where did you get Drizzle from? I just tried the binary from https://sourceforge.net/projects/drizzle/ and it ran without problems. Also, try right-clicking the jar file and choose "Open with..."->"Java(TM) Platform SE binary".

That is where I got Drizzle from. Just to be certain I used your links for Drizzle and Java and opened with "Java(TM) Platform SE binary", which is what I was using when I reported the results in my last post. I still get the same message when trying to load Drizzle.

Strange. Can you try uninstalling Java and reinstalling it after?

I uninstalled Java and reloaded from the source that you provided the link to. After selecting, "Java(TM) Platform SE binary", to open Drizzle with i still get the error message, "C:\user\DELL\Desktop\Drizzle31.jar is not a valid WIN32 application". Apparently there is an incompatibility between Drizzle/JAVA8 and Windows7. I also found a source for Java6 and It failed, no error message but would not let me select, "Java(TM) Platform SE binary" to open Drizzle with.

Thank you for your effort. I can run Tpots, but can not load the fan ages. However I can still run the fan ages under Deep Island Shard. Is there a manual way I can down load the fan ages?

You should be able to get the packages Drizzle downloads from http://www.the-deep-island.de/uru-ages/. If I'm not mistaken, it should be enough to unpack them to your TPotS directory with 7zip.

Note: Please only download the ages if you want to play them on TOC TPotS, do not install OfflineKI or extras as they may break the client.
